17th May is the date when we hope to be welcoming diners back indoors. No more booking of tables outside and constantly checking the weather or going out in lots of layers so you’re prepared whatever the weather. Things are unlikely to be fully back to our old normal though and we’ll probably still need to mitigate the risks with additional cleaning measures, wipeable surfaces (including menus) and limited seating due to distancing measures to make diners feel safe.

Eateries have implemented new table booking policies for reopening, with limited time slots and different ways of booking. Because the phone is constantly ringing, many have started taking online bookings or use apps to ease the pressure. It’s essential that diners know the best and easiest way to book a table for repeat visits, so when they head out to discuss what a lovely time they’ve had and make plans for their next visit. Make sure they know how to rebook while they are select the date and have somewhere to make a note of it, to reduce the number of ‘no shows’ for your limited number of tables. Appointment cards for bookings can be a great option, particularly for those non-digital customers, providing details of how to book on one side and a place to make a note of the next booking on the other, ready to be pinned to a board or on a fridge as a reminder that there’s something to look forward to.

We’re so looking forward to a meal out….or in.
